Princess the camel predicts the Super Bowl

Unless you haven’t turned on a TV or read a newspaper you’ve probably seen and heard your fair share of Super Bowl XLVII predictions. One of the more unusual picks comes from the Popcorn Park Zoo in New Jersey from Princess, a 26 year old camel. Though this is far from Princess’ first time being in the spotlight for the Super Bowl; She’s predicted six of the last seven Super Bowls.

For Super Bowl XLVII has chosen the 3.5 point underdog Baltimore Ravens. It’s not unusual for Princess to go with the underdog. She actually picked the New York Giants to upset the New England Patriots both times. During this years regular season she went 11-6 in predictions though it was a bit of a down year for the camel.

Do you know more than a camel?

Manti Te’o's draft stock

By now everyone has heard the bizzare tale unfolding around the Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te’o. Well he’s going to be entering the NFL Draft in April and it remains to be seen whether this newfound attention will help or hurt his draft stock.

While all the facts are yet to surface, and they never may, it’s a safe bet that this circus will make some teams think twice about using a first round pick on Te’o. I’m sure teams are willing to pass a certain amount of judgement until all the facts surface but regardless of his involvement it’s going to cause teams to think twice before a team offers him a seven-digit contract.

Apple seeing a decline for the first time in nearly a decade?

Apple has been on the rise for nearly a decade now when it comes to products and earnings though all good things must end. The company is preparing to release its fiscal-firs quarter earnings later this week and Wall Street analysts predict Apple may be reporting its first decline in nine years.

With Apple launches losing steam faster than they did due to weaker demand, which even resulted in cutting orders for the iPhone 5, and price drops on older devices the company may be leveling off. Wall Street could of course be wrong and Apple could have been extremely conservative with their numbers and then outperforming the estimates, which wouldn’t be the first time for Apple.

Estimize, a crowd-sourcing service, actually has Apple’s quarterly earnings rising by 4%. We’ll all find out if Apple is still climbing or leveling out a bit come January 23 when Apple is planning to report their earnings.

Are Apple’s next iPhone and iOS right around the corner?

Apple is reportedly in the testing stages of a new iPhone model, likely the iPhone 6 or 5s, and a new iOS. The Next Web is reporting that a developer showed proof that Apple has been testing a phone that is referred to as the ‘iPhone 6,1′ and was running iOS 7.

The developer logs provided to TNW show app requests originating from an IP address in Cupertino, California, where Apple has a campus. TNW then went on to say, “Although OS and device data can be faked, the unique IP footprint leading back to Apple’s Cupertino campus leads us to believe this is ont one of those attempts.”

Gun groups expect to keep their assault weapons

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, countless gun control proposals are being drafted to help curb gun violence. There are plenty schools of thought regarding gun control in the U.S.; some call for assault weapons to be banned while others are calling for an all out stoppage of firearm sales.

NRA President David Keene is wasn’t too open to the idea of compromising with the White House. Following the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Keene told CNN, “What we put the brakes on is anything that simply takes away a person’s Second Amendment right for no good reason.”

He then went on to predict that, “The likelihood is that they are not going to be able to get an assault weapons ban through this Congress.”

Is the spotlight shifting in Los Angeles?

The Clippers and Lakers share a city and an arena, but that’s about it. This season the Clippers have taken the spotlight from the Lakers and don’t seem too keen on sharing. The Lakers have been in a downward spiral in a season riddled with injuries, coaching changes, and old age while the Clippers have only been going up.

With a 28-8 record the Clippers can claim the title of not only the best team in the west, but in the entire league. They showed flashes of this ability las season but couldn’t seem to fire on all cylinders consistently. This year they’ve blown teams out, come from behind to win, and sometimes barely squeaked out a win but the underlying theme remains, they win.

Alabama poised for a three-peat?

Alabama cemented itself as a dynasty on Monday with their second consecutive BCS title. The Nick Saban led Crimson Tide are already early favorites for the 2013 BCS title as well with their odds at 5/1. If the Tide does end up winning back-to-back-to-back titles it would be the first time a team has done it in over 70 years; Minnesota did so from 1934-36.

The thought of Alabama completing a three-peat is not far fetched, at all. Following the game Saban told reporters that, “The process is ongoing. We’re going to enjoy it for 24 hours or so.” Assuming that the Tide doesn’t lose any players the leave early for the NFL the team will have 16 returning starters.

Next-generation iPhone to feature more options?

With the iPhone 5 releasing last September now’s as good of time as any to start addressing the rumors for the next-generation iPhone.

First, the next iPhone will come in more color varieties than just black and white. MacRumors posted a rumor started by Jeffries analyst Peter Misek that the phone will be available in 6-8 different colors. It’s a fair assumption that the iPhone will take some hints from lasts year’s iPod touch update which allowed customers to choose from six color variations.

Later in the article is a rumor that the next iPhone will be available in more than one screen size. When Apple made the jump from the 4S to the 5 is also expanded the screen size from a 3.5-inch screen to a 4-inch screen. This lends itself to previous rumors of a lower-priced “mini” iPhone. Apple could very well indeed offer its newest phone rendition in two sizes to penetrate even more mobile markets.

The results of TIME Magazine’s “Fearless Sports Predictions for 2012″

With 2012 well on its way out today, it’s time to see how TIME’s Sean Gregory fared with his “Fearless Sports Predictions for 2012“.

We’re only going to focus on the “No Duh” picks:

1. The Miami Heat win the 2012 NBA title.

Off to a good start with the first prediction as the Heat did indeed win the title along and Lebron finally got to silence many of his critics by finally donning a ring.

2. The Green Bay Packers repeat as Super Bowl champs.

Well, no one’s perfect right? If you’ll remember, the Packers didn’t even appear in Super Bowl XLVI. Instead, we saw a rematch between the New England Patriots and New York Giants with the football Gaints coming out on top. Did Eli prove that he’s “elite” yet?

3. Usain Bolt wins the 100-m Olympic gold. Though he won’t break his world-record time, 9.58 sec., set at the 2009 world championships.

Getting back on track with this prediction, Bolt once again dominated the Olympics and did win the 100-m. Though he did break an Olympic record with his 9.63 second 100-m time, he didn’t break his world-record from the 2009 world championships.

4. Spain wins Euro 2012.

TIME comes correct again and correctly predicted that Spain would win the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship while becoming the first team to win two consecutive European Championships. Spain defended their title against Italy and finished on top 4-0.

5. The Texas Rangers win the World Series.

Time for the predictions to fall back to earth a bit. The Texas Ranger barely made the playoffs due to a late season collapse and ultimately only made it because of the expanded wildcard teams. The Rangers lost their one game playoff to the Baltimore Orioles.

Think you can predict 2013 better? Prove it.

NPR brings a rumor to light that Apple is launching its own streaming music service in 2013

Apple helped revolutionize and monetize digital music. Why shouldn’t we expect them to try their hand at streaming services for music, the one area they’ve tiptoed around for some time. Pandora seemed to blow the floodgates and bring music streaming services into the mainstream. Songza has changed streaming music services by offering full album streams. Both services offer free and paid versions and both have had trouble actually profitting.

It’s tough to force hands to pay when they can get it for free. That’s where Apple comes in. When the iTunes store initially launched many people scoffed at the idea of paying for music and not receiving a physical copy. Clearly Apple knew what they were doing. NPR recently brought the rumor to light that Apple is going to launch its own streaming music service in 2013.
